23சூரியன் உதயமானபோது லோத்து சோவார் நகரத்திற்குள் நுழைந்தான்.24அதே நேரத்தில் கர்த்தர் சோதோமையும் கொமோராவையும் அழிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார்.கர்த்தர் வானத்திலிருந்து நெருப்பையும் கந்தகத்தையும் அந்நகரின் மேல் விழுமாறு செய்து 25அந்த நகரங்களையும் அதன் முழு சமவெளியையும் அங்கிருந்த செடிகொடிகளையும் ஜனங்களையும் அழித்துவிட்டார்.26அவர்கள் ஓடிப்போகும்போது லோத்தின் மனைவி பார்த்தால்.அதனால் அவள் உப்புத்துண் ஆனாள்.27அதே நாள் அதிகாலையில் ஆபிரகாம் எழுந்து கர்த்தரை தொழுதுகொள்ளும் இடத்துக்கு சென்றான்.அவன் அங்கிருந்து சோதோம், கொமோரா நகரங்கள் இருக்கும் திசையையும், அதன் சமவெளியையும் பார்த்தபோது புகை எழும்ப கண்டான் அது பெரிய நெருப்பினால் ஏற்படும் புகை போல் தோன்றியது.

The Location of Sodom and Gomorrah

Genesis 10:19 indicates the five cities formed the Canaanite border, thus the could not have been grouped together at the south end of the Dead Sea as popularly believed. They form a north-south line along the Jordan/Dead Sea area.

The precise location of Sodom and Gomorrah is uncertain. We can deduce that it was somewhere east or southeast of Jerusalem, in the area of the Dead Sea. Abraham was able to see it from the great trees of Mamre, near Hebron (Genesis 18:1, 19:27). Hebron is located 18 miles west of the Dead Sea, about half-way between its north and south ends.

The traces or shadows of the five cities are still to be seen.

Each of the cities of the plain contain evidence of brimstone which God rained down upon the cities to destroy them.Webster's Dictionary says that "brimstone" = sulfur. This is brimstone with a burned, hardened shell that has the unburned sulfur inside.

This is brimstone without a burned shell. The brimstone is composed of 96-98 percent sulfur, with trace amounts of magnesium which create an extremely high temperature burn. This is the only place on earth where you can find 96 percent pure monoclinic sulfur in a round ball.This brimstone is NOT from any type of geo-thermal activity as there is no evidence of such in the area, and geo-thermal sulfur nodules are only 40 percent pure sulfur and are of the rhombic type.

It is related how, for the impiety of its inhabitants, it was burnt by lightning; in consequence of which there are still the remainders of that Divine fire, and the traces [or shadows] of the five cities are still to be seen, as well as the ashes growing in their fruits; which fruits have a color as if they were fit to be eaten, but if you pluck them with your hands, they dissolve into smoke and ashes. And thus what is related of this land of Sodom hath these marks of credibility which our very sight affords us." (Josephus, The Wars of the Jews, IV.8.4).
